If you do a Google search on hope acronyms you will get a whole page of things that some people say the letters H, O, P, and E stand for. One, in particular, jumped out to me. It said, “Have Only Positive Expectations.” I like that.
Let me ask you this: When you think about your job, or about your marriage, or your friends, or maybe even your physical appearance…do you have positive expectations? Do you think positive things, or are you quick to jump to think something negative like, Oh this situation will never get any better. Or, that person will always be a mess. Or I’m always going to be this overweight, so why even try.
I believe having hope means that you are convinced that God is involved in your situation, and that he is working to make something good out of it. This future good that God is constantly revealing now and forever is a source of great hope for me, and hopefully for you. Even if it doesn’t look good now, God is at work, making good of your mess. Hope believes situations and people can change…and looks for…and waits for…that change.
