Wow…yesterday’s discussion on Facebook about “Reckless Love” was amazing. So grateful for all your input. I will plead “artistic license” for the writers of the tune (all eight of them!). I can’t imagine that every one of my own songs would stand up to the scrutiny of the public. It’s a precarious position to be in, to try to lead people to a deeper understanding of God’s love, especially using creative means. But here goes…
To you reading this, wondering what it means to experience God’s love… God seems to be all about making sure that we know how incredibly loved we are (John 3:16-17, and the whole Bible). That we were created unique, beautiful, in God’s own image, and completely on purpose. When you were made, God didn’t just stir up a bunch of random ingredients and you accidentally emerged from the chaos. God knew the exact number of hairs you’d have on your head throughout your entire life (ya know, even though some come and go…HA!). (Psalm 139:13-14, 16, Isaiah 64:8, Jer. 1:4-5)
God’s message seems to be not one of pursuit…but rather, of continual presence. God with us: Emmanuel. I rest in the truth of Romans 8:38-39 that says there is nothing we can do to escape the love of God. Some may tell you otherwise, but please correct them. And never stop reminding yourself that you are a beautiful masterpiece, a creation of immeasurable worth, immersed in the love of God. And because of that perfect love, we have no need for artificial substitutes, though we are continually tempted to believe the false offers of this present world to determine our worth. How you respond to God's love will define your life.
You are loved by God. And until you are fully convinced, I promise to continually remind you.
